My wife Jo and I live in Otaihanga with our two teenage children, and our extended family are based in Levin. This is our community, we live here, we care deeply about it, and we want it to thrive.
I graduated from Otago University with a double degree in law and drama, and since then I’ve worked across the private sector, Parliament, and the public service. I understand how change happens — and more importantly, how to make it happen. What drives me is delivering results and doing the job well.
Three years ago, I stood in Kāpiti’s closest-ever mayoral election. This time, with your support, we can make real change.
Our community is asking for a more open, transparent council — and as Mayor, I will deliver that. I’ll be accessible both in person and online, and I’ll bring strong communication and leadership to the role. That means fewer closed-door meetings. Public exclusion should be the exception, not the rule.
You’ll see a very different style of council under my leadership: more open, more inclusive, with fresh ideas and a sharper focus on long-term planning.
During my three years on Council, we’ve prioritised addressing the housing crisis. We adopted a Housing Strategy, secured land, and worked with private developers to build more social housing. We’ve also done the groundwork to manage growth properly, including modernising the District Plan to prepare Kāpiti for the future.
Unfortunately, Parliament overrode local voices and imposed an infill housing policy that undermines good planning. It has raised serious concerns across our community.
Kāpiti is growing — that’s a given. The question is: will we let change happen to us, or will we shape it for everyone’s benefit? Under my leadership, we will plan for growth in a way that works for our whole community.
